The first is an IT provider that covers every industry but specialises in none, who supports a medical practice the same way it supports any other office.
The second is an in-house setup that holds together until the “IT person” who understands everything goes on leave. Neither is an ideal situation for healthcare, where an outage doesn’t just slow the office down, it hinders patient care.
Meanwhile, regulatory requirements keep tightening, cyber threats keep growing, and the systems your practice depends on have to work without interruption. Keeping pace with all of it, on top of patient care, is a lot to ask.
That’s the gap expert healthcare IT closes. When your technology works the way your practice does, you get smoother operations, stronger data protection and more time back for patient care.
Less time on IT. More time with patients.
The best healthcare IT partner is one who doesn’t need healthcare explained to them.
One who understands what your clinical software does, why an outage at 9am is different from one at 5pm, and what your practice is obligated to protect.
FocusNet Technology has spent over 20 years supporting Australian healthcare providers, from single-site clinics to multi-location practices, across general practice, specialists, allied health and dental.
We support the clinical and practice management software you already run, securely host your practice data, protect patient records and prepare your systems for accreditation. We take the technology off your plate, so your team can focus on the people in front of them.

Our solutions enable you to focus on what matters most – the health of your patients.
We understand the pressures you are under, from healthcare compliance obligations to being one of the most targeted sectors for cybercrime, all while delivering the patient care that matters most. Every solution we deliver is reliable, secure and aligned with where your practice is heading, not just where it is today.
No two practices are the same, so we tailor our support to how yours actually runs. Find your practice type below.
IT support for GP clinics and medical centres, covering clinical software like Best Practice and MedicalDirector, Medicare Online claiming, My Health Record and RACGP accreditation requirements.
Specialist rooms depend on fast, reliable access to records, referrals and results, often across more than one location. We keep your clinical systems performing so consulting time is spent with patients, not chasing IT.
Allied health practices juggle bookings, claiming, telehealth and clinical records, often with staff working across sites and after hours. We keep the technology behind all of it reliable, secure and easy to work with.
Dental practices rely on imaging, scheduling and claiming working together without interruption. We keep your systems secure, compliant and reliable so the practice runs smoothly from front desk to surgery.
Whether you’re opening a new practice or upgrading the systems behind an established one, the technology needs to be right. That’s the part we look after.
Building a new practice or moving premises? We design the network and infrastructure around your fit-out, so your systems are ready from opening day.
Running on old on-site servers or unhappy with your current provider? We migrate your practice to Medicloud and test everything for a full week before go-live, so your team keeps working as normal.
We securely host your practice data and support the clinical and practice management software your team relies on, along with the connections it depends on, including Medicare Online, ECLIPSE, My Health Record and the Healthcare Identifiers Service.
We prepare the IT side of your accreditation, with the documentation and audit support to show your systems meet what surveyors assess.
Access controls, multi-factor authentication, staff training, tested backups and a breach response plan, built in from the start so your practice meets its privacy obligations.
Considering an AI scribe or other AI tool? We check how it handles patient data and help you put the right controls and policies in place before your team starts using it.
Medicloud’s pay-per-user model means one predictable monthly fee, so your technology spend is easy to forecast as you grow.
A 24/7 dedicated service desk that understands healthcare, so when something goes wrong, it gets fixed fast.
Medicloud is FocusNet’s secure virtual desktop, built specifically for medical practices. Instead of running your clinical software and files off ageing on-site servers,
Instead of keeping your practice data and files on ageing on-site servers, Medicloud moves them into FocusNet’s own Australian-based infrastructure, so your team can log in securely from anywhere, on any device.
Medicloud integrates with the clinical and practice management software you already run, so switching to it does not mean switching away from the systems your team knows. Every migration is tested for a full week before go-live, so your practice keeps running as normal while the move happens in the background.
It comes with a guaranteed 99.99% uptime, enterprise-grade cyber security, and a 24/7 dedicated service desk, all for one predictable monthly fee per user. As your practice grows, Medicloud grows with it, with no ageing hardware to replace and no surprise upgrade costs.
Medicloud brings the technology behind your practice into one secure, predictable solution, so you are protected against the everyday risks that catch practices out, from a lost laptop to a missed backup, without adding to your workload.
Continuity with a guaranteed 99.99% uptime.

Fast, reliable internet and secure remote access to your practice data.

Perfect for practices looking to replace ageing infrastructure.
Layered protection for patient records, results, practice documents and financial data, built for one of the most targeted sectors for cybercrime.
Security you don’t have to think about, so your patients never have to worry.
In recent years, healthcare has consistently topped the charts as one of the most targeted sectors for cyber attacks. The high value of the data that practices hold combined with the general lack of investment in IT security makes you an easy meal for the hackers.
Fortunately, it is not hard or that expensive to significantly reduce the cyber exposure.
Protecting that data starts with how we operate as a business. Our pillar of strength for the cyber security we deliver is our ISO 27001 certification, the internationally recognised standard for Information Security Management Systems.
It defines the entire philosophy of our approach, every service, process and procedure we run is designed to keep your practice data private, intact and available when you need it.
For healthcare specifically, that means meeting obligations under the Privacy Act 1988, supporting the data retention and access controls RACGP accreditation expects, and keeping practices ready for requirements like the My Health Record Sharing by Default, and making sure new tools like AI scribes don’t put patient data at risk.
It is not hard or expensive to significantly reduce your cyber exposure, and we offer members of AMA WA, CPD Home, as well as others, discounted services for cyber audits and staff security awareness training.

Every service we deliver is managed and monitored against the requirements and controls of our ISO 27001 certified Information Security Management System.
A practical audit that shows exactly where your practice stands, with a clear risk assessment and prioritised recommendations benchmarked against ACSC guidelines.
Most incidents start with a single careless click from inside the business. Practical training and simulated phishing build real habits across your team.
Strategic guidance on meeting your compliance obligations and making confident calls when something changes, without the jargon.
We simulate real attacker techniques to surface the weaknesses automated scanners miss, with a prioritised report in plain English.
Layered access management ensures only authorised people reach confidential patient and practice records.
Patient data, practice documents and financial records are encrypted wherever they are stored or sent.
A 24/7 operations team identifies suspicious activity in real time using network and endpoint monitoring to identify and contain threats before they can escalate.
Automated offsite backups protect against accidental deletion, hardware failure, fire, theft and the risk of an on-site-only backup being compromised.
Cloud-based protection against spam, malware, phishing and other email-borne threats, with advanced threat protection and link protection built in.
Layered prevention, detection and tested data backups for quick recovery, backed by email filtering and threat intelligence.
AI scribes and other tools can save clinicians time, but they handle sensitive patient data. We assess tools before you adopt them, confirm where data is stored and processed, and help set the policies and consent processes to use them safely.
No device or user is trusted by default. Every connection is verified before access is granted, reducing internal risk across hybrid and remote work.
We assess your environment against insurer expectations and provide the documentation insurers ask for at application or renewal.
Here is a real example of how we helped a practice get set up right from the start.
FocusNet has cultivated strategic industry partnerships, demonstrating our commitment to delivering trusted and specialised services tailored to the healthcare sector’s unique needs.
We are proud to collaborate with leading organisations and associations like the Australian Medical Association of WA (AMAWA) and CPD Home, ensuring our solutions meet the highest standards of quality and compliance.

We support and maintain a wide range of clinical and practice management platforms, and we connect your practice securely to Australia's national digital health infrastructure.
Some of the platforms and integrations we work with include:
We securely host your practice data and work to ensure information moves safely between your systems, with ongoing monitoring and maintenance. Every setup is configured to meet My Health Record security requirements, the Privacy Act 1988 and the information security expectations of RACGP accreditation, including the written security and access policy practices.
Yes. We set up secure, compliant telehealth that works within your existing practice management systems, covering video conferencing, audio-visual hardware and the workflows around them.
Setups include network optimisation and cyber security to protect patient confidentiality, in line with the Privacy Act 1988 and RACGP guidance on telehealth consultations. We also provide training, support and monitoring to keep consultations running smoothly.
We secure connected medical devices with controls built for healthcare: network segmentation, endpoint protection and firmware management to prevent unauthorised access or tampering.
Regular vulnerability assessments and patch management keep devices inside a protected environment, aligned with Privacy Act 1988 obligations and the information security requirements of RACGP accreditation. Staff training and incident response planning back it up so your equipment and patient data stay protected as threats evolve.
Yes. We prepare the IT side of your accreditation so your systems meet what surveyors assess. We review your infrastructure, backups and security, implement compliant backup, network security, access controls and staff cyber awareness training, then provide the documentation and audit support to demonstrate compliance.
General practices are currently accredited against the RACGP Standards for general practices 5th edition. The RACGP released the 6th edition in August 2026, and the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care will confirm when accreditation moves across. We help practices meet the current Standards while getting ready for the new ones.
For other practice types, we support the IT requirements of whichever accreditation framework applies to you.
From 1 July 2026, written pathology and diagnostic imaging reports authored by, or on behalf of, a pathologist or radiologist must be uploaded to My Health Record by default, unless an exception applies or an extension has been granted. The obligation sits with the pathology and imaging providers, so most practices are affected as recipients of results rather than as uploaders. Practices that provide pathology or diagnostic imaging services of this kind are directly in scope.
For practices in scope, we make sure your software is conformant and correctly configured, and that evidence of any exceptions is securely kept for the required two years. For every practice we support, we keep your My Health Record connection secure and working, so you stay ready as these requirements expand over time.
Yes. The RACGP 6th edition Standards address AI use in general practice, including informed patient consent and care with sensitive data. We help practices assess AI tools before adoption, confirm where patient data is stored and processed, set up access controls, and document the policies and consent processes your practice needs.
